Why live in Markham?
With all the development occurring in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), buyers are having a difficult time choosing where they want to call home. However, Markham, Ontario is unique to the GTA.
Markham just made the switch from a town to a city on July 1st 2012 with a population of approximately 300,000 inhabitants living in this city, placing them as the 16th largest city in Canada and one of the fastest growing.
The villages of Markham and Unionville are part of the Town of Markham, which is home to some of the GTA most luxuries homes and many of Canada’s most technologically advanced high-tech businesses. Situated on 243 acres in the heart of the GTA, Markham Centre will feature international stores, gourmet restaurants and cafes, a river valley, fine entertainment – all within walking distance of each other.
If you prefer heritage setting you can choose to live in Markham Village or Unionville, where shops and services are housed in charming settings. Main Street in Markham Village offers a nostalgic shopping venue, with heritage buildings and street lamps, and interlocking brick sidewalks. Unionville is known for its Victorian Main Street shopping boutiques and tearooms, and Toogood Pond, a popular spot for canoeing and skating.
Getting around the GTA is easy form Markham. Highways 7, 11, 48, 404 and 407 help to make traveling convenient for commuters, and downtown Toronto is only 30 minutes south.
If you can dream it, you can believe it when it comes to the City of Markham, as there are an endless amount of activities available to the public.
The Arts Integra Centre for Music and the Arts is a great place for children to develop a sense of the arts while being embraced in a great environment. Located on Main street, Markham, the center houses performances that are created by children for the public audiences pleasure. They also offer many private one-to-one lessons for the students to understand what they should expect at each level of dramatic arts.
One of the most intriguing attractions of Markham is their vast variety of spectacular golf courses available to the public. Even with the huge developments that are occurring in this city, there is still enough room for people to hit the green. Some of the most notable golf courses are: Angus Glen Golf Club, which hosted the 2007 Canadian Open, Bushwood Golf Course and the Mandarin Golf and Country Club.
Children in Markham have great opportunities within society to develop into great adults. Markham has notable great sports clubs for children to join suchas, the Markham Stingers for volleyball, MUMBA for basketball, Markham Waxers for hockey and Markham Lightning for soccer. All of these clubs are known province wide for how successful they are in developing great talent such as Steven Stamkos, Steve Thomas and Ben Johnson to name a few.
Academics are very important in Markham as well. According to the Fraser Institute, Markham houses three of the top 25 elementary schools in the province and the best elementary school in the province, Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys. The success does not stop there as they again have three schools in the top 25 of the province when it comes to Secondary schools.
Markhamprovides great scenery for their occupants to choose from with 48 parks. The most recognizable park, the Markham Civic Centre is where the town hall is located. Markham also has 36 communities located in it’s city. It’s most notable communities are Cornell, Milliken Mills and WismerCommons, where you can find most of the population.
All in all, there is no wrong decision when coming to Markham, Ontario as it offers a great sense of belonging at any age.
