Vaughan: A City Above Toronto
Vaughan is the brightest star of the Greater Toronto Area. Located in York Region, it has grown from a modest population of about 15,000 in the early 70s to a population of about 300, 000 today. The attraction of living in a diverse and prosperous city, combined with proximity to Toronto, has made Vaughan Canada’s fastest growing municipality. Vaughan provides a living experience that combines the dynamism of a metropolitan city with the tranquility and greenery of a small town.
Vaughan is a green city and is dotted with countless parks and gardens. It also contains two conservation parks within its borders: The Boyd Conservation Area and the Kortright Conservation Centre. Both conservation areas provide picnic spots, trails and environmental education.
Vaughan is perfect for those who commute to Toronto on a daily basis. Five different public transportation services provide its residents with a swift and easy commute to the city. Thornhill, located along the major thoroughfare Yonge St., has not lost its small-town charm despite having such a centralized location.
Canada’s Wonderland, the largest amusement park in Canada, is located in Maple and provides its residents with an unrivaled and breathtaking experience. Maple is also home to Vaughan Mills, a cutting edge shopping experience that combines factory outlets, specialty retailers (many not available elsewhere in Canada), dining and entertainment into one enclosed complex.
For a truly village-like feel, one need not look further than Kleinberg. Boasting a population of just over 4,000 people, it punches above its weight in culture. Kleinberg is home to a major gallery: The McMichael Art Gallery as well as the Toronto International Film Studios. A cross section of arts and entertainment in a quaint village atmosphere has proven to be a great success: celebrities and movie stars can often be seen sipping lattes or dining in some of the fabulous cafes and restaurants that this village has to offer.
Woodbridge, boasting a large Italian community, is home to some of the best Italian restaurants in Canada. Aside from fine dining, another custom brought to Vaughan from the old world is wine-making. Several wineries in Woodbridge such as Cilento Wines and the Magnotta winery use generations old techniques to bring finely crafted wine to a new generation. Woodbridge is also home to another popular European pass-time: Soccer. The Ontario Soccer Centre not only includes the Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum its facilities also feature: various indoor and outdoor soccer fields, a sports therapy clinic and of course a restaurant and lounge to unwind after a hard-fought victory.
Vaughan’s rapid growth has created a demand for a hospital to cater to its large population, the closest one currently being in Richmond Hill. To address this issue, a brand new multi-billion dollar hospital has been approved for construction in the Vellore Woods area, ensuring that residents of Vaughan will have a conveniently located, state-of-the-art hospital facility suitable for a region with a future as bright as Vaughan’s.
Vaughan is a multifaceted region that will cater to any whim or taste. It is a region that will remain in the hearts and minds of anyone who visits, but only if they resist the urge to stay and call this amazing place their new home.
