Etobicoke Lifestyle

Etobicoke is a fantastic area filled with beauty, history, and culture.  A great division of Toronto for families looking for affordability and convenience.  Etobicoke contains everything people are looking for: great schools (including college campuses), parks, recreation, and a variety of neighbourhoods.

This division of Toronto contains three sections: The Lakeshore, Central Etobicoke, and Rexdale.  With more housing becoming available each year, Etobicoke is the place many Torontonians are calling home! Access to downtown Toronto is made easy, with the TTC running through Etobicoke.  Transportation includes street cars, bus lines, and a few GO stations: Longbranch and Mimico.

The Lakeshore division is a beautiful area.  Friendly, commuter accessible, and beautiful.  The Lakeshore contains three major communities: Town of Mimico, New Toronto, and the  village of Long Branch.  Both communities lie along the Lakeshore, a road that runs straight to downtown Toronto, and runs east all the way to Hamilton.  Those living in this area can enjoy amazing scenery, as the waterfront trail begins here.  The trail runs through Colonel Samuel Smith Park, and Humber Bay Park and runs all the way to downtownToronto.  A few GO stations are also accessible in this area including Longbranch station and Mimico station.

Central Etobicoke is the oldest community in Etobicoke and exists along Dundas Street and around the Islington community.  Central Etobicoke holds Etobicoke's most exclusive neighbourhoods, with excellent housing stock and treed properties.  High rise rentals, townhouses, and post war bungalows exist along the East and West Mall parallel to Highway 427.  A Cineplex Theatre is also located here.

Rexdale includes all northern nineteenth century Etobicoke communities such as Clairville, Highfield, Smithfield, and Thistletown.  This division of Etobicoke contains many apartment buildings and is home to Pearson International Airport.

There is a wide range of schools peppered throughout Etobicoke.  Overseen by the Toronto District School Board, there are fifteen public secondary schools, several Catholic secondary schools, and many grade schools.  The ESA, Etobicoke School of the Arts, is also found here.  This school is one of the most distinct, oldest, free standing arts-focused high schools in Canada!  Etobicoke also is home to Humber College and a campus of University of Guelph-Humber.

There is a wide variety of activity and things to do in Etobicoke! Along with its variety of communities and divisions, Etobicoke holds quite a few beautiful parks and recreation.  First and foremost: High Park.  High Park is Toronto's largest public park and it contains a vast network of hiking trails, sports facilities, vegetation, lakefront, dog parks, playgrounds, eateries, picnic areas and not to mention... a zoo! It goes all the way north to Bloor St. and south to the Queensway; West from Grenadere Pond to Parkside dr.

Etobicoke is also home to the Centennial Park Conservatory which contains a 2,200 seat outdoor stadium with a football/soccer field, an arena which hosts hockey leagues, figure skating clubs, and a ringette leage.  The conservatory also contains an olympic-sized pool and eight different picnic areas!

A few other parks worth mentioning in this division of  Toronto are Etienne Brule Park, James Garden's Park, Long Branch Park, Colonel Samuel Smith Park, and the beautiful Humber Bay Park which runs right along the waterfront.  There are also a few golf courses throughout Etobicoke, including the St. George's Golf and Country Club, ranked 3rd best in Canada!

Throughout the seasons Etobicoke holds many fun filled community events.  Some of these include Tulip Tuesday festival (at end of May), Toronto Ribfest, and Canada fire work shows!

Shopping is included in the "things to do" list in Etobicoke.  One notable area is the Bloor West Village.  This village is a shopping district along Bloor St. and is home to all sorts of businesses.  These consist of restaurants, specialty clothing stores, book stores, and much more! Bloor West Village is a highly suggested area to check out indeed, and is sandwiched in between the Runnymede and Swansea neighbourhood communities.

Another shopping area located in Etobicoke is the famous Sherway Gardens Shopping Centre.Etobicoke is a vast, multicultural division of Toronto.  It is filled with beautiful parks, communities, and accessibility to wherever commuters need to go! With it's variety of parks, safe communities, schools, etc...families, singles, students, etc. can find a suitable community to live in!
